Maybe time for an update?
If you haven’t noticed, my site has undergone a little bit of a facelift. Not anything too crazy. Just a refresh for this new season of life.
So what have I been up to?
I parted ways with The Rock Talent about 2.5 years ago. And I didn’t immediately try and sign with anyone new. I felt a little burnt out and a little dissappointed with how my career had been going thus far. And I figured it would be best for my head, heart, and frankly, my ego, to take a step back.
To be clear, I didn’t mean a step back from performing. That summer I got to see one of my childhood dreams realized as I played a newsboy in Newsies. It was also my first time as an on-stage swing. Which is really no joke. About 4 months after that closed I booked The Outsiders with the Independent Players. The day that show closed I went in to tech week for The Prom with Up and Coming Theatre. Which was the absolute worst theatre experience I have ever had. Yikes.
But then something insane happened, the production of The Outsiders I had just closed… transferred to Chicago! I got to take my first bow on a Chicago stage and it was everything I had dreamed of. We performed 16 shows at the Athenaeum Center. And with the transfer I was able to take on the role of Cherry Valence u/s. Cherry has been a dream role of mine for a while and I got to play her 5 times over the course of the run.
But wait, there’s more.
Our production was featured in Playbill. Like THE Playbill. Hello??
AND.
I got to do a takeover of Playbill’s instagram account. Is that not insane?
So I made a promise that moving forward would only submit myself for things that either paid or furthered my career (hopefully both at the same time).
A few months after that show came to a close I booked Jesus Christ Superstar with point2productions. We were the first production to perform at the new theatre The Lodge and this show gave me the largest paycheck I’ve ever received from a theatre production.
It's like things just kept climbing and climbing.
The day JCS closed I had a callback for the next show I booked! Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost with iambe Theatre Ensemble.
I’ve been in rehearsal for that show for about 2 weeks now. I haven’t been in a Shakespeare since 2012. And LLL was actually the first Shakespeare I performed in at 10 y.o.
It’s a cute little full circle moment.
Oh you thought I was done? Nope.
Just the other night I got to take part in the workshop of a brand new musical: gods: A Musical Rampage by my wonderful friend, Kyle Reid Hass.
The material is brilliant. And so timely. I am so excited to see where that show goes. And I really hope I get to be a part of it’s life moving forward. The role I was playing is Sheela. A millennial flower-child.
It’s almost like the role was written for me, no?
*takes a deep breath
And now you’re caught up. Life has been NUTS. But it’s SO GOOD. I’m loving the work I’m doing. I’m feeling creatively fulfilled and now I’m ready to sign with a new agency. I know that this is what I’m meant to be doing with my life and I’m doing the damn thing.
Thank you for reading this little life update!! Hopefully I can remember not to keep you hanging over the next couple of years.
